Yahoo’s backlash: Silicon Valley bosses will remain those who allow ‘at home’ working

Glamour Magazine's 2009 Women of the Year AwardsSilicon Valley, Calif: Over the course of this week, Marissa Mayer has probably attracted more controversy than praise over her sudden move to ban remote working at Yahoo. The company released an internal memo barring employees from any longer participating in the effort, which C.E.O’s across Silicon Valley have dubbed ‘ridiculous’.

‘There are significant tangible benefits when employees are together working under the same roof,  however under the same notion their are still those intangible benefits — a Twitter spokesperson told Daily News  Wednesday afternoon. ‘With that, we also recognize  often that it’s important to be able to work remotely, and we by all means allow that for flexibility’.

Speed and quality are often sacrificed when we work from home,’ read the memo. ‘We need to be one Yahoo!, and that starts with physically being together.’
